Supervises:                No supervisory duties are included in this position

Position Summary:

Designs, constructs and/or maintains structural woodwork and other varied woodwork requiring the use of standard carpenter tools and power-driven woodworking machinery. Completes routine repairs independently without supervision or review. Ensures that equipment, physical plant and property are maintained properly so that equipment operates at optimum levels, efficiently and safely with minimal downtime and inconvenience to guests and co-workers.

 

Duties, Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Maintains a professional and courteous demeanor to our guests and co-workers.
  • Performs preventative maintenance on guestrooms, public areas or equipment, as assigned.
  • Responds to and repairs guest and co-worker service requests and/or complaints in a timely and professional manner.
  • Conducts and keeps daily checklists and logs, as directed.
  • Keeps shelves stocked with adequate replacement parts as directed in order to minimize downtime.
  • Constructs, repairs, restores and installs structures such as floors, doors, walls, windows, stairways, furniture, cabinets, shelves, and roofs.
  • Installs locks, knobs, hinges, closures, and other fixtures to structures.
  • Repairs and maintains doors, floors, windows, partitions, ceilings, and exteriors of buildings; builds and installs door and window framing.
  • Builds wooden structures such as partitions, building, office additions, fences, and scaffolds and does sheeting and rough carpentry on the buildings.
  • Performs hand and bench work in carpentry work shop; operates planers, joiners, drill presses, power saws, sanders, and other woodworking machinery.
  • Drives a vehicle to either on-site or off-site locations to inspect, repair or maintain equipment and/or facilities, as directed.
  • Ensures that the department is functioning economically and efficiently.
  • Ensures continuous improvement in the Maintenance Department.
  • Practices good housekeeping techniques, including maintaining an organized and clean work area.
  • Actively participates in maintaining a safe work environment.
  • Provides assistance during emergencies by operating floodlights and generators, placing flares, and driving needed vehicles.
  • Takes on non-carpentry responsibilities based on workload requirements or as directed.
  • Fulfills other responsibilities as assigned/directed by Director of Facilities and General Manager.

           

Skills/Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of tools, equipment, and materials common to the carpentry trade.
  • Laminate and cabinet making skills.
  • Skills in construction, remodeling, restoration.
  • Skills in rough and finish woodworking.
  • Ability to estimate time and materials need for assigned work projects.
  • Ability to plan, layout, and perform average level carpentry work.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
  • Skills in measuring and calculating as applicable to most common carpentry type work.
  • Must have strong problem-solving skills.
  • Must be detail-oriented.
  • Must have strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.

Education and/or Experience:

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent desirable
  • A certificate or diploma from a technical training school or an associate's degree in carpentry or ten (10) years related experience and/or training.

Licenses and Special Requirements:

  • Clean driving license

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Ability to exert maximum muscle force to lift, push, pull or carry objects.
  • Ability to coordinate the movement of arms, legs and torso together when the whole body is in motion.
  • Ability to use abdominal and lower back muscles to support part of the body repeatedly or continuously over time without experiencing undo fatigue.
  • Ability to bend, stretch, twist or reach with the body, arms and/or legs.
  • Ability to exert oneself physically over long periods of time without getting winded or out of breath
